Peoria Chamber endorses Navajo power station alternative

IPeoriandependent Newsmedia

The Peoria Chamber of Commerce wants reduced emissions, no water and power increases, and to save jobs from the Navajo Generating Station and believes the alternative plan is the answer.

The Chamber, which represents and advocates for business interests in the community, sent a letter of support for the plan to the Environmental Protection Agency. The alternative plan, proposed by Central Arizona Project and Salt River Project officials, is designed to avoid huge expenses, major layoffs and devastation of the station’s workforce.

The EPA’s proposal of Best Available Retrofit Technology would not achieve the emission reductions outlined in the alternative plan, according to the Chamber’s letter.
