Long-term mortgage rates edged up this week amid signs of a strengthening economy and a rebound in consumer confidence.
Freddie Mac says the average rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.53 percent in the week ending Jan. 2, up from 4.48 percent last week. 30-year rates hit record lows in November 2012, when they averaged just 3.31 percent.
