Gilbert Town Manager Patrick Banger was one of eight semi-finalists for the Phoenix city manager’s position after submitting an application in December, according to public records obtained by The Republic.
Banger, a former economic development consultant and city administrator in Missouri, was hired as Gilbert’s town manager in August 2011 and has since implemented sweeping organizational changes and a budgeting system that have helped make him popular with Town Council members.
While Banger told The Republic he was ready to accept the Phoenix job if conditions were right and an offer was made, he is happy working in Gilbert and only applied after being recruited by California-based executive search firm Bob Murray & Associates.
