The Glendale City Council will vote Tuesday, March 25, whether to allow a Phoenix-based firm to build two billboards along Loop 101 at the Bell Road exit.
It is unclear how the vote may turn, with a spectrum of opinions ranging from Councilman Gary Sherwood’s firm support, Councilman Manny Martinez’s staunch opposition and Councilman Ian Hugh’s uncertainty.
The billboard proposal has drawn ire from Peoria and Glendale residents as far as Arrowhead Ranch, who regularly pack related meetings wielding signs, stickers and stacks of petitions signed by their neighbors. They argue that the billboards, which would stand at the Peoria-Glendale line, would drop their property values, degrade their neighborhood atmosphere and distract drivers.
