Construction sales tax is driving the positive tax reports in recent months for the Town of Clarkdale. The town’s tax revenue is up over the same period last year in retail tax, total tax and year-to-date. But the positive news for Clarkdale in the August report is construction.
Construction sales tax jumped in August to $79,402, an increase from $7,256 last August. The year-to-date construction sales tax collections for July through August also jumped to $154,257 from $16,489 for the same period last year.
Mayor Doug Von Gausig said he had not yet seen the tax report for August to study it in detail. “But I think that was the sidewalk all along from Patio Park up to Main Street,” he said.
That is a Community Development Block Grant for sidewalks and new lighting.
Another sidewalk project Von Gausig pointed to is the ADOT project along SR 89A.
Another construction tax boost Von Gausig mentioned is the town’s new sewer plant.
