Glendale City Council got its first look at the proposed 2014-15 budget at the April 8 workshop that shows financial services has closed a proposed $17 million deficit and closed it to a little more than $2 million for the upcoming year.
The original projections from December 2013 showed that the city budget would show a shortage of $8.6 million for next year. After working with every department and making cuts – which will not reduce any city services – the shortage was lowered to $2.1 million.
“There is no reduction in services and no reduction in the general fund,” said Tom Duensing, executive director of financial services. “Because we start with a $17 million surplus in the general fund, we can adopt a budget for next year with a deficit.”
