A tax-credit extension could spur wind-farm development in Arizona
Arizona has several manufacturers employing about 200 people in the wind industry, according to the recently released AWEA 2013 market report
Opponents of the tax credit argue that because it pays wind farms for their outright production, it encourages wind development even when the electricity from those projects might displace other carbon-free forms of electricity such as hydropower or nuclear power
Arizona has 129 wind turbines spinning across its horizons, generating about 0.4 percent of the state’s electricity, according to a new industry report.
But not many more are likely to be built without an extension of the federal production tax credit that has helped spur wind-farm development across the breezier areas of the country.
