With Gilbert poised to welcome about 100,000 more residents in the coming decades, a new transportation study recommends the town beef up transit services with bus routes and rail stations to relieve worsening traffic congestion.
Early last year, officials launched an effort to create Gilbert’s first Transportation Master Plan, a comprehensive document that covers roads, mass transit, bicycle lanes and pedestrian access.
The Town Council approved a $421,500 contract with private consultant Ayers Associates to help create the plan. A preliminary draft was posted online in advance of a May 13 meeting for public review.
