A Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, and former reporter in the Valley, was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday after allegations of misconduct were brought to light by another agency.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in a news release that citizens deserve a “thorough investigation” of the serious misconduct allegations against Public Information Officer Elias Johnson. Babeu went on to say his office will continue to work hard to keep “public trust.”

A PCSO news release stated that they will be training members of their own staff to act as fill-in public information officers when their assigned officers are not able to perform their duties.

Those staff members will continue to work their main jobs, but will have the added duty whenever necessary.

No other information regarding the incident will be released until the investigation is concluded.

Johnson was previously a reporter at KPHO in Phoenix.
