Construction tops the jobs lost list while Ariz. unemployment dives under 7%

Well, this is awkward… Arizona consumer confidence is at its highest in six years and the unemployment rate at its lowest in seven. Cranes are popping up all over the skyline, and construction employment losses were the highest of all job sectors in April.

Statewide construction employment plummeted by 1,100 jobs in April, the largest month-over-month job loss for the month since April 2009. Specialty trades has a ten year average through the recession of gaining 600 jobs in April, and it lost 1,200 jobs. Building construction lost 100 jobs and heavy construction gained 200 over March.
