Paradise Valley debate of election process heads for vote

A group of Paradise Valley residents is spearheading an effort to abolish allowing the general public to elect their own mayor.

Proponents of Proposition 454 say the desire for another vote is primarily driven by the perceived negative perception of the community brought on by last March’s election cycle.

Paradise Valley Town Council — by a 4-3 margin — approved sending the election process in which the municipality’s mayor is elected back to voters this coming November.

The council’s June 7 vote came on the heels of a citizen petition.

At Paradise Valley Town Council’s May 10 regular meeting, former Mayor Robert Plenge presented a citizen petition with about 500 signatures asking the governing board to reconsider the direct-election process.
