The 4.25-acre site directly across from Chandler City Hall, known as Site 6, has been vacant and used as a parking lot but is on its way to seeing development that will help expand the city’s downtown area, reports Annie Z. Yu at The Chandler Republic.
The city council awarded the Site 6 Request for Proposal to Ryan Companies US, Inc. at its Aug. 14 meeting.
Vice Mayor Rick Heumann said at the Aug. 11 study session that the city has gone through several RFPs that were not acceptable for the prime real-estate parcel.
“It’s real important that what gets built across the street is a prize and gem, and Ryan Companies fully understands what we’re looking for,” Heumann said. “We’ve been struggling with this a little bit over the years and are now hopefully getting closer to the finish line in terms of developing Site 6.”
Ryan Companies has proposed a mixed-use project of two office buildings with retail and restaurants for the city-owned site at the northwestern corner of Chicago Street and Arizona Avenue. The proposed plan includes pedestrian pathways and open space for events, patrons and employees.
Development on the premier piece of downtown property is expected to open much-needed office space, bring jobs downtown and grow the area as an entertainment destination, said Kim Moyers, Chandler’s downtown redevelopment manager.
