On a unanimous vote to approve and with no public opposition present, the Coolidge City Council Monday night approved changes permitting future planning of 11,477 acres of land owned mainly by Pinal Land Holdings.

The changes make way for economic development of the land that has over the years been known as the “City of Mesa Water Farm Property.” Mesa originally purchased the land for future preservation of its water rights.

Earlier this year Mesa completed a sale of much of the land to Pinal Land Holdings, which is in the process of rezoning the property for variety of uses.  Earlier this month the Eloy submitted a letter in opposition to the General Plan change but just last week the withdrew that opposition letter, and did not send a representative to the council hearing to protest the change.

The Coolidge mayor and council expressed excitement about the possibilities for growth in the area covered by the new General Plan and expected to be annexed before the end of the year.

At the hearing, Cameron Carter, a partner at Rose Law Group, thanked the mayor, council and staff on behalf of Pinal Land Holdings, saying, “This is really the first step in what is becoming a great relationship with Coolidge; we are thrilled to be here.”
