Smith, Jones endorse Ducey for governor
Former Republican gubernatorial candidates Scott Smith and Christine Jones have endorsed Doug Ducey for governor.
Ducey, the state treasurer, won the Republican nomination for governor last week after a heated six-way race that had left some of his rivals hesitating to back him.
Political insiders wondered whether Smith in particular would endorse at all. Smith and Ducey during the primary reflected a divide in the Republican Party with Smith supporting the more moderate faction, supporting Gov. Jan Brewer’s Medicaid expansion and Arizona’s version of Common Core education standards, and Ducey representing the more conservative faction, focusing on border security issues and opposing Medicaid expansion.
