A $300 million condo development will get underway next summer near the Phoenix-Scottsdale border, although some lingering opposition remains.
The Optima project sailed through the approval process earlier this month. Initial opposition focused on its size but had disappeared by the time the Phoenix City Council voted unanimously to support the plan. Critics still have doubts about the project’s size, and at least one petition effort aimed at reversing the council decision has been threatened.
But with the council vote, Optima now has the go-ahead to build three 12-story buildings and one 10-story building on the site north of Kierland Commons where the Robb & Stucky furniture store did business until it closed several years ago. A bridal shop, Schaffer’s, also is on the property.
