2 races undecided, with 195K ballots uncounted

More than 195,000 early and provisional Arizona ballots remained to be counted Wednesday afternoon, likely affecting at least two undecided contests: the race for the 2nd Congressional District and the state superintendent of public instruction.

The number is expected to fluctuate, and continue rising, throughout the day. It is unlikely that officials will have a firm statewide count of outstanding ballots until after 5 p.m. today.

Republican Martha McSally held the slimmest of leads — fewer than 40 votes as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday — over incumbent Democratic Rep. Ron Barber in the race for the southern Arizona district.
