Arizona Public Service Co. has decided to delay its decision until later this year on a new route for power lines that has drawn concerns from residents in Cave Creek and northeast Phoenix.
Initially a decision had been set to be made by the end of October.
However, APS project manager Richard Stuhan said that based on the large amount of feedback from the public, stakeholders, as well as local and state officials, the utility company has decided to continue discussions about the proposed routes.
“The main thing we want to do is take some more time in order to make the best decision,” he said.
Five routes are proposed in an area of the Northeast Valley where Phoenix, Scottsdale, Cave Creek and Carefree come together.
The new power lines also could affect Maricopa County areas, state, federal and preserve land, Stuhan said.
