I just received some great news about the future of school choice in Florida. For the second time this year, a Florida judge has approved the Goldwater Institute’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit challenging that state’s adoption of education savings accounts (ESA).
The lawsuit was brought by Florida’s largest teachers union in an attempt to block these savings accounts and also stop the expansion of Florida’s tuition tax credit program. The Goldwater Institute stepped in to protect the right of Florida families to use these programs so their children can receive the education that works best for them.
If the teachers union chooses to appeal the judge’s decision, we will vigorously defend this important ruling for as long as it takes. But for now, an estimated 300,000 children in Florida can safely eligible enroll for an education savings account, a school-choice innovation by the Goldwater Institute to provide students with greatest possible flexibility in pursuing a better education.
