Glendale purchasing procedures under scrutiny

A recent audit of the warehouse for city departments contains worrisome observations, such as inadequate safeguards and $460,000 in expenses that were not adequately reviewed, but the city council will hear revised purchasing procedures later this year.

“There’s a perception out there, among the public and lots and lots of people, that nobody’s really minding the store,” said Councilmember Lauren Tolmachoff during the council’s Jan. 9 retreat.

The auditors noticed people entering the Materials Control Warehouse unsupervised. They also found security cameras not recording and external doors propped open, “allowing employees, contractors and external vendors full access to MCW inventory.”
