Reinstate fired employees, board tells Superintendent Douglas; legal showdown expected

The State Board of Education ordered Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas to allow two board staffers back to work, two days after she attempted to fire them and barred them from the Arizona Department of Education Building.

But Douglas suggested that she may not comply, setting up a possible showdown that follows an inflammatory attack she launched on Thursday against Gov. Doug Ducey, board President Greg Miller and the Board of Education as a whole. The board scheduled Friday’s emergency meeting in response to Douglas’ attempted firing of Christine Thompson, the board’s executive director, and Sabrina Vazquez, her assistant.
