Environmentalist and businesses team up in support of resolution against Tusayan development

In a rare display of solidarity, environmental groups and local business groups turned out in force at Tuesday’s Flagstaff City Council meeting to support a resolution opposing a proposed road easement on U.S. Forest Service lands linking the town of Tusayan to a major new housing and commercial development.

Council voted 5 to 2 to approve the resolution. Mayor Jerry Nabours and Councilmember Scott Overton voted against it.

Kaibab Forest Supervisor Mike Williams explained to Council that the town of Tusayan approached the Forest Service with the request for a road easement across Forest Service lands to the Kotzin Ranch and TenX Ranch properties. The two properties are part of a 2,000-home development by Stilo Development Group that includes more than 3 million square feet of commercial and retail space.
