Glendale has launched into its city-wide General Plan update.
Planning Director Jon Froke said the city begins a series of important public workshops to gain input from residents, 5:30-7:30 p.m., March 25, at the Glendale Civic Center, 5750 W. Glenn Drive.
It is the first of three public meetings, with subsequent meetings to be announced in the coming months.
“We are excited to introduce the concept of the General Plan Update to the public at the neighborhood meeting on March 25th,” Froke said. “In early 2014 the City Council established the General Plan Steering Committee which is made up of approximately 30 stakeholders. The GPSC is helping guide this effort.”
Glendale’s General Plan update will cover the topics that are covered in the current General Plan, which range from land-use and growth areas to circulation. It will also include new topics required by Arizona law and local needs, such as energy and neighborhood preservation.
The General Plan serves as a guide to future development, land use, public service, and resource decisions. Froke said all plans, subdivisions, public works projects, and zoning decisions must be consistent with the general plan.
“We’re on a good path to have it ratified by Glendale voters in August 2016,” he said.
Glendale’s current General Plan was approved by voters in 2002.
