As Arizonans finish up and send in their income-tax returns, it begs the question: How much in taxes do we pay compared to Americans overall?
It’s not a simple answer, as there are many categories, of which income taxes are just one. But in general, Arizona’s tax burden is fairly light, which also reflects lower-than-average personal incomes here.
The following table summarizes some key comparisons as provided by the Tax Foundation in Washington, D.C. The group also publishes a Tax Freedom Day analysis that illustrates how long into the year residents would have to work to pay all federal, state and local taxes, assuming they paid all taxes before expenses for housing, transportation and everything else.
