A bill to reduce property taxes on property leased to religious organizations fared far better under the new governor than it did under his predecessor, getting Gov. Doug Ducey’s signature one year after Jan Brewer vetoed it.
Ducey on Monday signed HB2128, which reduces the state assessment ratio on property that is rented to churches or other religious institutions to just 1 percent, a reduction of more than 95 percent. Such property is currently taxed under commercial property rates, which will have an assessment ratio of 18 percent in fiscal year 2016.
