Chandler council rejects plan for 132 new homes

A plan to build 132 new homes in an area of south Chandler was rejected by a sharply divided city council, with a majority worried the plan would sacrifice land identified by the city for commercial buildings designed to draw jobs.

Several council members also weren’t convinced the location, southeast of Arizona Avenue and Queen Creek Road, was appropriate for housing given its location near the Chandler Municipal Airport, railroad tracks and a possible future extension of the Valley’s light-rail system along Arizona Avenue.
