Town Council approves changes along Marana Road

The Marana Town Council voted 6 to 1 tonight to approve the realignment of Marana Road over the objections of two nearby developers — a move that could cost the town millions of dollars.

The new alignment would would re=route westbound traffic from the Interstate 10 interchange change south of the existing alignment for Marana Road, bypassing a portion of the 80-acre planned regional shopping center.

Adam Trenk, an attorney representing the Cardon Group, one of the developers, said he was extremely disappointed with the town council’s decision.

The developers have had an agreement with Marana for more than five years to help pay widen the now-two lane road to handle road more than 55,000 trips a day generated by the new shopping center, in anticipation the road would follow the existing alignment adjacent to their property.
