The Fairmont Princess Hotel will remove a small outdoor event space and three tennis courts in order to build an additional 102 rooms.

Scottsdale City Council voted April 28 to amend the zoning map of the Fairmont Princess Hotel, allowing an additional 102 hotel rooms to be built where an outdoor event space and three tennis courts stand.

The hotel’s ground lease, approved by Scottsdale City Council in 1995, allows for 794 hotel rooms on the 66-acre property, states an April 28 staff report.

A total of 649 rooms exist. An extra 102 rooms will bring the tally up to 751, still below the maximum set by the ground lease.

Additional hotel rooms will require additional parking, the report continues. To keep in compliance with zoning ordinance requirements, Fairmont Princess must provide at least 1.25 parking spaces per guest room and 50 spaces per conference center.
