A Tempe family has sued the city in order to keep the downtown land parcel that holds the family’s longtime adobe home — as well as its long-running stockpile of junk.
The land, just off the light-rail line and Tempe Town Lake, became the focus of an ongoing property dispute as new restaurants and condominiums sprouted around it.
In the lawsuit, the Sussex family asks that a judge rule the family has squatters’ rights to the land and that Tempe has no ownership claim.
Members of the Sussex family still live in the original home, which has been modified and expanded.
