Short-term vacation rentals in Coconino County will be regulated under county ordinance beginning Nov. 19, according to a resolution passed unanimously by the Coconino County Board of Supervisors Tuesday night.
The new vacation rental ordinance establishes standards for people renting out all or part of their home for less than 30 days and includes occupancy limits, parking requirements and provisions allowing for enforcement on excessive noise and other disturbances.
The supervisors’ vote comes after more than a year of work by the county’s planning and zoning department to craft an ordinance that balances the rights of property owners to rent their homes and the tourism-related benefits of vacation rentals with concerns about noise, traffic and other impacts to the surrounding neighborhoods.
“For the most part this was a long process for the right reason,” County Supervisor Art Babbott said. “There has been some great discussion about how we balance tourism and the amazing qualities of this area with neighborhood character.”
