A stalemate on the Eloy City Council killed a proposed property tax increase at Monday night’s meeting.
With vice mayor Micah Powell absent for the item, the other six council members were deadlocked 3-3 on whether or not to approve a property tax increase from $1.14 to $1.17 per $100 of net assessed value. A tie vote means the motion to approve the item dies.
Even though it was a very small proposed increase, some council members were dead set against any tax increase and the message it would send to Eloy residents.
