Yarnell residents are appealing the dismissal of two lawsuits they filed over the way the state handled the Yarnell Hill Fire.
A legal brief filed Monday by the homeowners’ attorney, Craig Knapp, said the state had a duty to care for residents of the neighboring town of Yarnell in a non-negligent way and as a matter of public policy when the June 2013 fire broke out.
“The Yarnell property owners deserve to be compensated for the harms and losses that were caused by the state’s negligence in managing the fire,” Knapp said Monday in an interview with The Arizona Republic.
