Changing partisan stripes, O’Halleran running for Congress as Democrat on renewable energy platform

Former Sedona state lawmaker Tom O’Halleran, a Republican-turned-independent now registered as a Democrat, will run for Congress in northeastern Arizona.

O’Halleran, who will formally announce his bid today, said his values haven’t changed, but the Republican Party, under which he served from 2001 to 2009, has shifted.

“The way (Republicans) say it is: ‘Government is all bad,’ ” he told The Arizona Republic. “I don’t think government is bad. What do you not like? The roads? The military? … I don’t see investment in our citizens’ future as a waste.”
