Glendale has a great chance to chart its future direction as city leaders work with residents to update its general plan over the next year and a half.
The last update was in 2002, when Glendale was a different place. Consider:
The area of the Westgate Sports and Entertainment complex was still in agricultural production.
Loop 303 was a two-lane road.
The area west of Loop 303 was undeveloped.
Northern Parkway was still on the drawing boards.
The future mission of Luke Air Force Base had yet to be determined and its future was in doubt.
Obviously, the city’s prospects look far different today, which makes it a good time to reassess and plan for the future.
