Fire and medical districts have become a hot topic in Pinal County, but of the recent applicants, only one has succeeded.
On Wednesday, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the formation of the Pinal Rural Fire Rescue & Medical District. The vote was a mere formality, as state law mandates approval of such districts if the requisite number of signatures are collected and fees paid.
The board has the most control over getting the process started; any district that wishes to form must have an impact statement approved by the board before it can move forward and collect signatures.
Last August, the board voted 3-2 to approve the impact statement for the district, which covers rural eastern Pinal County.
