Tribe attorney claims a way to bypass state regulation of Glendale casino

The Tohono O’odham Nation plans to open its West Valley casino in December with Class 2 gaming, a distinction that bypasses the state’s opposition to its gaming hall.

The Arizona Department of Gaming has the authority to regulate Class 3 gaming, which includes slot machines and blackjack, but not Class 2 gaming with gaming machines that are akin to electronic bingo. The state has opposed the tribe’s plans for a Class 3 casino at Loop 101 and Northern Avenue for six years.
