Downtown Apache Junction has seen many improvements over the last couple of years since the adoption and implementation of the Downtown Redevelopment and Implementation Strategy.
Beautification projects have had a visual impact — the Old West Highway median enhancements, a public-art feature, the downtown message marquee, a flag memorial honoring service personnel, improvements to Plaza Drive and most recently, the phase one completion of improvements to North Apache Trail.
In the past, this short segment of roadway simply felt like a pass-through. By designing a roadway that is pedestrian friendly, includes on-street parking, and has shaded walkway areas and traditional street lights with festive banners, the intent is to create a safe, inviting gathering place and shopper-friendly area for residents and visitors.
