MARICOPA — The dustup in Coolidge this month after the city council tentatively adopted an amended resolution calling for Christian-only prayer before meetings was avoided under similar circumstances in another Pinal County city.
Pinal County Supervisor Anthony Smith, who previously served as mayor of Maricopa, said he saw the same type of issue arise during his Maricopa tenure.
“It came up during my first term, in which the previous council had held a couple meetings in the First Baptist Church, and I think that raised some eyebrows,” Smith said.
