Las Sendas residents say Goodwill too ‘low rent’ for high-end area

Las Sendas dwellers are getting a new Goodwill nearby whether they want one or not — and many really, really don’t want one.

Residents of the high-end Mesa master-planned community for three weeks have been delivering fiery screeds at public meetings, cramming officials’ in boxes with protests and otherwise disputing the 22,500-square-foot shop and donation center planned at Power and McDowell roads.

Despite Goodwill’s arguments to the contrary, the residents insist the area is already saturated with Goodwills and other thrift stores, and they say the non-profit doesn’t fit with the sophisticated look and feel of the broader Las Sendas area.
