A little over a year ago, Glendale City Councilman Gary Sherwood was among the dignitaries at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tohono O’odham Nation’s West Valley casino.
Sherwood helped negotiate a settlement with the southern Arizona tribe, ending five years of city opposition, with the nation agreeing to pay Glendale more than $25 million over 20 years. Sherwood was riding high and talked about running for mayor against incumbent Jerry Weiers in August 2016.
Now, he is fighting for his political life.
