Andrew Wikstrom’s long, strange journey with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office came to an abrupt end last month when a merit commission upheld his firing by Sheriff Paul Babeu.
Wikstrom, a former deputy at PCSO, already had been terminated once before by Babeu, but that firing was overturned when it was appealed to the Pinal County Law Enforcement Merit Commission. This time, the commission didn’t rule in the deputy’s favor, upholding the termination Sept. 17 with a 3-1 vote.
A stunned and upset Wikstrom could only shake his head and mutter a few profanities as he made his way out of the hearing room at Pinal County Administration Building A.
