BASIS campus wins final approval after weeks of controversy

Following weeks of controversy as residents and school officials clashed over traffic and safety concerns, the Scottsdale City Council gave approval for a new Basis charter-school campus in north Scottsdale this week.

Basis Scottsdale — ranked among the top high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report — expects to start work Feb. 29 on the 9-acre property at Shea Boulevard and 128th Street. The school plans to finish the 1,200-student campus in time for the start of the school year in August.

Basis will relocate students in grades 4 through 12 to the new campus, which will feature upgraded science labs for chemistry, new labs for biology, a large outdoor courtyard, full-size gym and more classrooms.
