The renewed interest in some GOP circles in passing comprehensive immigration reform may bump up the publishing deadline for the book that Goldwater Institute litigation chief Clint Bolick is co-writing with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, says the Yellow Sheet Report.
“Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution” is scheduled for release on April 23, according to Amazon.com. But Bolick told the Yellow Sheet he and Bush are now hoping to get the book to the presses before that so it will be ready before any immigration reform bills are introduced or passed.
Meanwhile, Bolick says he is pleased with the change of direction among Republicans regarding immigration reform that followed Romney’s poor showing with Latino voters, and that will be a part of the book.
Bolick said he’s optimistic that there will soon be progress on the issue. He tempered that comment, however.
“I think Democrats see this as a wedge issue that operates to their advantage, so I remain somewhat skeptical that we’ll see bipartisan action. The party has to show that it is genuinely concerned about issues that impact Hispanics. That, of course, will be a big part of our book as well.”
