The first medical marijuana dispensary in Arizona state history is set to open for business.
Arizona Organix in Glendale was inspected by the Department of Health Services Thursday. Inspectors didn’t find any issues with its security, inventory control, structuring, or records, and gave the company the go-ahead to open.
However, the company’s lawyer told 3TV it will likely wait for several lawsuits by medical marijuana opponents to be adjudicated, and to see how local law enforcement reacts.
“Certainly, a county attorney doesn’t bring cases of violations of federal law, so if he were to try to bring a violation of state law it would have to be litigated in the courts. But as of right now, they’re well within their rights under Arizona law,” said Ryan Hurley of Rose Law Group. Watch:
“It’s good that they’re so thorough. It gets the right people in the business, and keeps the wrong people out,” said Ben Myer, Director of Arizona Organix.
Currently, caregivers grow medical marijuana for licensed patients, which DHS has cited as being tougher to regulate than dispensaries.
