The Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting was honored with two awards from the 2015 Arizona Press Club’s Writing and Design Awards, which honor excellence in Arizona journalism and were announced this past weekend.
Community Investigative Reporting: 1st Place
AZCIR’s Evan Wyloge was awarded first place for community investigative reporting for his article, APS employee drafted anti-solar letter signed by AZ congressman, which detailed questionable practices by Arizona’s largest public utility company, Arizona Public Service.
An excerpt about the article from judge Eric Lipton of The New York Times:
“This story brings out into public the deceptive effort by APS to use federal lawmakers who in many cases have taken a considerable amount of campaign money from the company as weapons against the rooftop solar industry. The public was well served by this story, getting visibly into how this corporation has worked to try to influence the FTC and the CFPB.”
