A judge denied a request for a temporary restraining order that would have prevented the Secretary of State’s Office from kick-starting the process of validating signatures collected on a ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage.
The Arizona Restaurant and Hospitality Association sought the restraining order at an emergency hearing Tuesday afternoon, claiming that the secretary of state’s office was acting far faster than is statutorily required to conduct an initial check of the more than 250,000 signatures filed to raise the minimum wage from $8.05 an hour to $12. The measure would also require paid leave.
