Four people are interested in running for the chairmanship of the Pinal County Republican Party, but it looks like the contest will come down to former Sierra Vista city councilman Harold Vangilder of Casa Grande, and Irene Littleton, the county party’s current first vice-chair, says the Yellow Sheet Report (YS).
The two others interested in the position are Seraphim Larsen, who is the current party secretary, and PC Ted Stevens.
Next month’s election will take place amid a controversy surrounding the county party’s decision to publicly call out former Senate President Steve Pierce and Speaker Andy Tobin and to persuade their colleagues to ditch them as leaders.
Vangilder told YS one of his goals, if elected, is to repair the disunity in his party. “We have to really change direction from the path that the party is on right now,” he said, adding that the resolution opposing Pierce and Tobin “was just so ill-advised.”
