Queen Creek hopes to use the fact it has one of the highest median household incomes in the Valley when it tries to attract more businesses into the town, The Arizona Republic reports
According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s recent American Community Survey estimates, the annual median household income in Queen Creek — based on the three-year period from 2008 to 2010 — was $86,067. Paradise Valley had highest median income at more than $150,000.
The median household income in Queen Creek has more than doubled in the past 10 years, according to the 2000 U.S. Census estimate of $41,994.
Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney told The Republic the high median income “means we have a young, highly trained workforce.” This may be one reason Queen Creek has not been “hurt as much with foreclosures” as some other communities.
The town’s population is expected to increase by 33 percent to 35,176 between 2010 and 2015, according to the officials’ estimates.
The population projection is based on an estimate of new single-family-home building permits for fiscal years 2010 to 2015 and an average household size based on the town’s 2010 census data.
Although the town has budgeted a 10 percent increase per year in permits over the next three years, Balmer said officials are “seeing a significant increase in building permits well above the 10 percent.”
