A group of 29 religious leaders representing diverse faiths have sent a letter to the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) in support of including the full, long-term benefits of rooftop solar in the proceeding (Docket E-00000J-14-0023) to determine a methodology for calculating the benefits and costs of rooftop solar, a news release from the group on Wednesday stated.
The letter says people of faith have a responsibility to be stewards of the earth and rooftop solar can be an important means to that end.
“Our fragile planet home is a precious gift that must be cherished and protected,” the letter and news release read. “Today, stewarding the Earth needs to include weaning us off polluting fuels and developing renewable energy sources, especially those from the sun, a clean source of life and energy that is abundant here in Arizona.
“Rooftop solar can help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, improving the lives of countless Arizonans,” the letter continued. “We are all better off with more rooftop solar in Arizona. Alongside health and environmental benefits, rooftop solar reduces the costs of our electric grid and strengthens our economy, making it more sustainable in the future.”
