Ins and outs of economic development in Gilbert

Elite Commercial offices in Gilbert

Nearly 1,500 new jobs in Gilbert were announced during the previous fiscal year, but those gains were tempered somewhat as hundreds of jobs were lost because of lingering obstacles, such as the lack of large commercial space in the town’s employment districts, according to Gilbert’s Office of Economic Development.

As some companies relocate to Gilbert, others leave, reports The Arizona Republic.

Overall, there are about 58,500 jobs among 2,500 businesses in Gilbert, according to 2010 data from the Maricopa Association of Governments. That’s equal to about 0.28 job per resident, according to U.S. Census figures.

By comparison, Chandler had about 0.41 job per resident, Mesa had about 0.29 and Phoenix had about 0.44, according to MAG and Census statistics.
