Pinal water districts preparing for CAP reductions in 2017

Area irrigation districts are expecting a 25 percent reduction to Central Arizona Project water in the coming year.

Approximately 100,000 acre-feet is scheduled to be reduced from the special source of excess Colorado River water distributed, mostly to irrigation districts in Pinal County.

Brian Betcher, manager of Maricopa- Stanfield Irrigation and Drainage District, said these reductions have been planned for over a decade and the district will adjust accordingly to meet the needs of its agricultural users.

The district has a large network of canals and pipelines in place to deliver a mix of surface and groundwater to its many account holders.
